History

1947

Association Kontrollhudar was formed to obtain a comprehensive range of Swedish hides and skins. All slaughterhouse compounds were included as a partner. At that time there was a ban on exports on Swedish hides and skins, as they were seen as a strategic commodity. One must remember that the Second World War had just ended.

1948

The ban on exports to the U.S. was lifted.

1955

Storage in Varberg inaugurated. Before the central warehouse was built in Varberg, the salted hides were directly distributed from slaughterhouses out to tanneries. After inauguration of the storage in Varberg, the hides were collected from slaughterhouses to Varberg for sorting and then delivered from Varberg to tanneries.

1956

Kontrollhudar took over the sorting of intestines to sausage casings.

1958

Kontrollhudar started to import and sell artificial intestinal bowel.

1989

Project Golden Hides started to improve the quality of the Swedish hides.

1990

Kontrollhudar introduce under the project Golden Hides vaccination against ringworm to further enhance the quality.

1997

Sorting and salting of hides were centralized to the central warehouse in Varberg.

2001

Bowel activities were purchased by sister company Ellco Food. Kontrollhudar became a pure hide and skin company again and transformed into a joint stock company.

2002

Kontrollhudar got its first suppliers outside the former cooperative. Kontrollhudar continues to provide salting and sorting of the Swedish hides and skins for 100%.

2005

Place of origin follows-up of the hides is made possible through labeling in the so-called "HideMate" system.

2006

Supply and sale of hides from Danish small slaughterhouses.

2009

KHi is sold during the autumn to be a subsidiary to Scan-Hide within the Danish Crown group.
