Preventive measures

Golden Hides is based on creating good routines and to take effective preventive measures. Golden Hides Programme is a detailed programme describing the prevention of, in the first instance, the following damage;

Injuries
Barbed wire scratches
Ectoparasites
Ringworm
Dung burns
Horn Damage

Measures
Electrical fencing
Prophylactic treatment
Vaccination
Clean animals
Dehorning

In order to encourage the farmers to work for “Golden Hides” bonus system was introduced. This requires electric fences to the pastures, dehorning of calves, louse control, dung-free hides, stable interior that prevents scratch damages and, if necessary vaccination against ringworm.

Effective Program

A continuous evaluation of the Golden Hides Programme shows that the programme is very successful not only financially, but also for the the work environment as well as for the animal health purposes.

Kontrollhudar sells both ringworm vaccine and louse-control remedy. Vaccination against trichophytosis, for example, launched in 1990, has not only led to a better hides, but also been important for animal health and to reduce the risk of transmission of ringworm from animals to humans. Since its introduction, both the number of animals and the number of farmers affected by ringworm have decreased substantially.

Ringworm vaccination is available on prescription from a veterinarian only. You can read more about the vaccine on www.FASS.se

Golden Hides

Hides from farmers connected to the Golden Hides Programme are labeled separate and sold under the trademark Golden Hides. A proof of the effectiveness of the program shows the follow-up, which shows that the percentage of damage-free hides are on average twice as high for the Golden Hides compared to other hides.

Immediate treatment

The hides from the yesterday's slaughter are transported during the night and the morning to Kontrollhudar International in Varberg. Here, we take care of the raw hides in a rational and gentle way in order to provide tanners high and steady quality. Our stamp represents a quality which is well known for the tanneries all over the world.

Sorting - Weighing - Classification

KHi has one of Europe's most advanced sorting equipment which enables a rational work procedure and automatic guidance.

Storage in cold room

The classified hides which passes directly to the right quality section are placed in the chillers awaiting salting. Skins, which at registration, are having superfluous fat are redirected to a station where the excess is removed and then placed on the line to chillers again.

Salting and loading on pallets

The raw hides, which arrived from the slaughterhouses in the morning are moved at the same day from the chillers for salting. Salt is putted on lying hides to get an evenly spread salt. Excessive salt is re-used.

The salted hides are stored unfolded in seven days. Then they go through a station where the excessive salt is removed, they are folded and placed on pallets. Now they are ready to be sent to tanneries.
